Modelling Sustainability Risk in the Brazilian Cosmetics Industry

Supply chains involve several stakeholders, with different environmental, social, economic, and ethical attributes, are exposed to various risks along all stages. One of these relates conditions or events related sustainability that have the potential generate harmful reactions from stakeholders in supply chain. Those can materialize through stakeholders’ responses, when they hold companies responsible for unfavorable chain, leading reputational damage. Understanding chain’s risk factors help improve chain resilience. This article aims empirically identify most influential Brazilian cosmetics and, additionally, analyze interrelationships between risks. The methodology combines interpretative structural modeling (ISM) matrix cross-impact multiplication (MICMAC) analysis, is grounded opinions industry experts. Firstly, critical causes consequences identified, called factors. Secondly, ISM model built, representing their hierarchy. Thirdly, MICMAC analysis performed, unfolding strength relationship among influencing Fourthly, measures designed act on mitigate identified previous steps. results show cosmetic analyzed do not take advantage opportunity leadership cost reduction, differentiation, engagement partners. “Financial risks” were as set risks, while “Technology innovation” “Legislation responsibility” root research could be implemented factors, thus contributing relating chains.
